{"id":13538,"date":"2021-10-01T07:05:35","date_gmt":"2021-10-01T05:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eskills.ch\/?p=13538"},"modified":"2023-02-16T22:53:15","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T21:53:15","slug":"why-companies-should-promote-a-diverse-and-inclusive-workplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eskills.ch\/en\/why-companies-should-promote-a-diverse-and-inclusive-workplace\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Companies Should Promote a Diverse and Inclusive Workplace"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In today\u2019s new era of work, diversity and inclusion are increasingly shifting towards the forefront of employers\u2019 HR agendas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With changing demographics and heightened social and political consciousness, building a diverse and inclusive workplace culture is no longer a mere \u201cnice-to-have\u201d, but a key strategy towards building employee experience and employer identity.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eskills.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/vignette_collabotateurs-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10659\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>But&#8230;What is diversity and inclusion?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To put it simply, diversity is about <em>variety in representation<\/em>, while inclusion is about <em>engagement<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Diversity<\/strong>&nbsp;refers to the differences in political beliefs, religion, physical ability, culture, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and\/or gender identity differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A diverse workplace is one whose employee composition reflects the make-up of the society in which it exists and operates<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inclusion<\/strong>, on the other hand, is the practice of providing everyone with equal access to opportunities and resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an inclusive organization, employees feel respected, involved, and treated fairly. They can work while expressing their authentic selves without fear nor discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits of a diverse and inclusive workplace<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Statistics have shown that organizations that prioritise diversity and inclusion produce happier, safer and more productive work environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some key benefits of a diverse and inclusive workplace:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Higher employee engagement and job satisfaction.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When employees feel comfortable to express their authentic selves without fear of criticism or reproachment, they forge a deeper sense of trust and belonging in an organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having staff who feel like they are accepted and well represented\u2014both at an individual and corporate level\u2014naturally leads to increased job satisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Increased productivity<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Diversity and inclusion also has significant impact on workplace productivity. since employees who feel belonged and valued are more likely to be invested in their individual\/ team\u2019s performance and meet workgroup objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More creativity and innovation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>How can a business be expected to adapt and evolve if its talent come from a narrow, monocultural remit? True creativity only blossoms when each team member\u2019s distinctive background, skills and experiences are encouraged and celebrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These provide opportunities for people to share their unique perspectives, leading to innovative new ideas, out-of-the-box solutions and better problem solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Case Study: Diversity and Inclusion at Cantonal Administration of Vaud<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Building an inclusive workplace culture is a top priority at the Cantonal Administration of Vaud (\u00c9tat Vaud)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the initiative of the LGBTIQ and the Parliamentary Commission of the Canton of Vaud, \u00c9tat Vaud had engaged eSkills in 2021 to create an e-learning course on inclusive culture for its government employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the course, \u00c9tat Vaud&#8217;s employees envisioned the desired changes in their organization&#8217;s workplace practices and values. They also learnt tips on how to respond to common workplace scenarios and during interactions with citizens, in a positive way that affirms diversity and inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eskills.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2021-09-23-at-15.48.43-1024x671.png\" alt=\"diversity and inclusion at workplace eSkills\" class=\"wp-image-10639\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eskills.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/3-1024x617.jpg\" alt=\"Diversity and inclusion in workplace, \u00c9tat Vaud\" class=\"wp-image-10644\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The module also covered important legal bases and the \u00c9tat Vaud&#8217;s official position against discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eskills.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2021-09-23-at-15.47.04-1024x669.png\" alt=\"Diversity and inclusion in workplace, \u00c9tat Vaud\" class=\"wp-image-10646\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It is punctuated by specialists interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eskills.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ecran_caroline_dayer-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10670\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The last part of the module sought to raise awareness of common race, gender and cultural stereotypes.
